Get on your bike!
Six of our staff have been learning how to ride motorbikes. The area we cover is a vast 2000km2 and we struggle to have enough vehicles for all our staff to use. We therefore hit on the idea of using motorbikes which are a tenth of the cost to buy and a fifth of the cost to run compared to a bakkie (pick up truck). There is not much of a culture of using motorbikes in the area and staff were somewhat reluctant to try them out. However, a kind training company from Durban offered their services free of charge to provide training. The staff are out practising on the local sports ground, and judging by their happy faces they are enjoying their new found skills! A second group will be trained in a few week's time.
Neli is back
Nelisiwe, one of our quiet and hardworking home based carers got a place at nursing school two years ago. We sponsored her studies and living costs. Now she has finished her training and returned this week to Ingwavuma to work for us. Her main job will be screening all the people who attend our HIV support groups to make sure that their CD4 blood tests are up to date and that they don't have any symptoms of TB. We hope that this added service will detect problems early and keep people alive for longer.

Switch from GivenGain to Ammado for online donations
While GivenGain charged us over $10 USD/month for being part of their "community" and having the facility to collect online donations from around the world, Ammado, offers this service for free! We have therefore canceled our account with GivenGain and switched to Ammado as our preferred conduit of worldwide online donations. GreaterGood is still collecting donations from within South Africa. Ammado brings together individuals, companies and non-profits to work together for a better world. We are now linked to 6 related non-profits and 5 companies including the Financial Times, but we need more friends. Join the Ammado giving community and tell your friends to get involved!
