Raise funds and awareness

Many charities are able to run fundraising events in their own communities, but as our local community is so poor we cannot do this ourselves.We need supporters around the world who can tell other people about our work or raise money for us. Join the body of faithful supporters who assist us without leaving the comfort of their own home. We have had a Sunday School class making and selling jewelry for us; a poetry book written and the profits donated to us; music evenings; a cookery book....

Volunteering

We frequently get people wanting to volunteer with us. However, while we have had many volunteers in the past, we find that in most cases it is more of a strain than a help to the organisation. Some of the volunteers have had mental breakdowns while they were here and we end up having to support them, rather than them helping us! The place is very remote and it is hard to find accommodation which has water and electricity. People who want to work in the community need to be able to speak Zulu fluently and understand the culture, while not being depressed by the poverty they see around them. We also are very stretched for transport and cannot spare vehicles for more people wanting to use them. Medical volunteers need to get registered with the medical or nursing council here in order to practice legally and this can take years to sort out. We also do not have the staff capacity to be providing supervision, counseling and orientation to people who want to volunteer. So unless you have some exceptional skills which you think we cannot do without, please do not ask to volunteer here!!
