Progress

  • The local community donated a plot of land about 80m by 170m. This is set back about 100m from the main road 12km away from the town of Ingwavuma. It is at the crossroads which gives access to the north and south areas of the district.
  • The land has been fenced.
  • The solar panels which were donated by the architects in the UK have been flown over to South Africa by Virigin Atlantic, free of charge.
  • The district and provincial deparment of health are fully in support of this development.
  • We have purchased the block making machine. A local businessman has offered to train people to use the machine and will oversee them as they make the blocks for us at a minimal cost.
  • The architects have finalised the drawings and the builders have costed this out.
  • Our application form for lease of the tribal land has been submitted along with letters of support from the tribal authority and Jozini Municipality
  • We are actively fundraising for work to begin ASAP; we have enough to get started and are planning to get going by the end of 2010.
  • We have raised funds for 2 portacabins, storage huts, guard huts and a few waterless toilets. We will use these for the orphan project while the main buildings are being built. Then they will be used for staff accommodation for nurses caring for clients at the hospice. These should be on site by October 2010.
  • We have raised funds for the playground. We will put this up next to the portacabins so that visiting orphans can have fun while they come for services.
