Tembelihle Bakery Project

By Ann Dean - Posted on 04 November 2010

A group of churches in Thembalihle, a remote area in the foothills between Ingwavuma and Jozini, have come together to form their own registered non-profit organisation to help orphans in their community.

The IOC New Zealand Trust Fund bought for them a solar powered bread oven with which they are starting a bakery. Women from the various churches are coming together and learning how to bake bread in this oven. Their aim is to bake 60 loaves a day and sell these to the local community. The profits made will then be used to buy food and otherwise assist needy children in their community.
