By Ann Dean - Posted on 05 February 2010

We have 45 staff on the payroll. We try as much as possible to recruit from the local population, but for higher skilled jobs, this is not always possible and we have to look further afield.

Director

Dr Ann Dean is the founder and director of the organisation. She trained as a doctor in the UK before coming to work in Ingwavuma at the local government hospital. While working there she completed a Masters in Maternal and Child Health through UCT. She left the hospital in 2003 to work full time at Orphan Care once the work became too great to do as a hobby.

Community Development Manager

Vee Dlamini has grown with the organisation, starting as one of the first orphan coordinators back in 2001 and gradually moving from field work to management and supervision. He recently completed a Health Management Course under Yale University. He is working with us as Community Development Manager.

Quality Improvement & Admin Manager

Kobus Meyer joined us in November 2007, coming from the University of Bloemfontain with a background in health research. He heads up the department which collects and collates data, monitors performance and addresses quality improvement and risk management issues. The department has also taken over admin, HR, finance & fleet services with the aim to bring excellence in quality to all of these areas.

Social Work Manager

Charity Chaendengwera joined us in 2007 and has moved up the ranks from being a social worker. She oversees the staff who deal with accessing social grants from the government and also providing counselling and bereavement support to children facing problems.

Family & Health Services Manager

Wanda Mthembu joined us in July 2011. She is a professional nurse with a PHD. She worked in Mosvold Hospital in the late 60's and is familiar with the area. She has a particular passion for palliative care and for children.

Finance Officer

Bathabile Mngomezulu has been with the organisation for many years, working her way up from bookkeeper. She ensures that the accounts are recorded properly and reports are prepared for funders. External consultants Hills Hammond & Associates visit once a month to prepare financial management reports and check that all financial procedures are strictly adhered to.
